Dancer and choreographer Malavika Sarukkai believes the world of Bharatanatyam is ever-expanding. And that is why it is crucial that promising talent be recognised and nurtured. And for this, Sarukkai’s Kalavaahini Trust has been awarding fellowships to classical dancers to choreograph work within the classical genre; the only criterion being it should be original in concept, creative and intelligent in execution. So far, it has awarded four fellowships, which are given to one senior and one upcoming artist every year.
