Coinciding with the 10th Anniversary of Kalavaahini in 2025, this unique initiative is designed as a residency for an intimate group of dancers. In keeping with the need to encourage dancers to look further into practical dance study, after enrolling in Kalavaahini’s Dance Immersion Program this initiative focuses on looking more closely at the creative process. This intense residency is aimed at dancers who wish to question and investigate their craft, sharpen their skills of communication and investigate the creative process through serious practise and collective discussion.
Structured in two parts, the morning sessions taken by a senior faculty member will include rigorous practise of dance followed by the afternoon and evening sessions taken by Dancer – Choreographer and Mentor Malavika Sarukkai which will unfold at a slower pace as dancers are urged to reflect on the making of dance.
The idea behind DIP for DIP is to facilitate an inspired environment where classical dance is centre staged and where dancers become aware of the many levels of the creative process through inquiry, observations and discussions in an environment of trust and friendship.
