SHEEJITH KRISHNA


Sheejith Krishna is the Director of Chennai-based Sahrdaya Foundation, an arts organization for
the study, research, and teaching of Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music, theatre, poetry, and art. He
studied, taught, and performed at the world-renowned Kalakshetra Foundation, for 21 years,
from 1989 to 2010. An independent artiste and choreographer, he learnt Bharatanatyam,
percussion, and vocal music from such stalwarts as Sarada Hoffman, Vikku Vinayakaram, and S
Rajaram.
A lead performer in the Kalakshetra Repertory, Sheejith Krishna has played the roles of both
Rama and Ravana in Rukmini Devi’s legendary six-part Ramayana series. He has choreographed
and created both solo and ensemble works Masquerade (2007), Krishna Bharatam (2009),
Parinaamam (2010),
Pravaaha (2013) and more recently Don Quixote, which premiered in Chennai and toured fifteen
US cities in 2015. Ram Katha, based primarily on Ramcharitamanas of Tulsidas.
