Vamatara - To The Light

A celebration of the concept of the lotus
in Hinduism.

Vamatara – To the Light choreographed and conceptualised by Malavika Sarukkai is a celebration of the concept of the lotus in Hinduism. This motif recurs in Indian thought and representation through the centuries be it in architecture, sculpture, painting, dance or poetry. The lotus motif resonates encompasses the arc from the worldly to the spiritual.

Through the visual unfolding of dance in Vamatara – To The Light, the lotus is seen as a figurative design in art as well as a symbol of awakening in philosophy and a metaphor of existence. Though rooted in slush, the lotus stem rises towards the light, its bloom blossoming to the rays of the sun, in a call for hope.
